What Swolemance collects, why, who else touches it, and how to get rid of it.
Draft for review. This page was written to describe how the Swolemance app actually works, but it has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Have counsel check it — and fill in the bracketed placeholders — before relying on it.

This policy covers the Swolemance mobile app and this website. It describes the data the app actually handles — what you type into it, what it needs to work, and the outside services involved.
1. What we collect
Account details
Your name, email address and password, plus a username and member ID. You may also give a phone number and ZIP code. Passwords are stored hashed — we cannot read them.
Profile
What you choose to put on your profile: photos, a short bio, city and state, gender, date of birth, height, weight, fitness goal, body type, ethnicity, and an Instagram handle if you add one. Depending on your match mode you also give fitness criteria, romance criteria, or both.
What you track
Workout sessions and logs, exercises and templates, body weight entries, meals and their calorie and macro breakdown, and fasting windows, logs and how each fast felt.
Social activity
Posts, likes and comments, friendships and pokes, and the messages you send — including read receipts. Voice and video calls are carried by a third-party service; we handle the setup, not a recording of the call.
Device and technical data
A push notification token for each device you enable notifications on, a log of notifications sent to you, and diagnostic and crash reports. Ordinary technical data such as IP address and app version reaches our servers with your requests.
Membership
Your subscription status, its events over time, and any promo code you redeem. We never receive your card number — the app stores take payment and tell us only whether a membership is active.
2. Health and fitness data
Workouts, weight, meals and fasts are health-related information about you, and some profile fields — date of birth, gender, ethnicity — are sensitive in many places. We collect them only because they are what the app is for, we do not sell them, and we do not use them for advertising.
3. How we use it
- To run the app: your account, profile, tracking, feed, messages and calls.
- To show you what your match mode calls for, and to suggest relevant members.
- To check whether your trial or membership is active.
- To send notifications you have asked for, and service messages such as password resets.
- To keep the Service safe — investigating abuse, fraud and terms breaches.
- To fix faults and improve the app, using diagnostics and crash reports.
- To meet legal obligations.
4. Who else sees it
We do not sell your personal data. We share it with service providers who process it on our behalf, only as far as their job requires:
| Purpose | What is involved |
|---|---|
| App stores & subscription management | Purchases, renewals and membership status. Payment details stay with the store. |
| Messaging, voice and video calling | Access tokens and call setup so calls can connect. |
| Push notification delivery | Your device token and the notification content. |
| Food and barcode lookup | Search terms and barcodes. These requests go through our servers, so the provider does not receive your identity. |
| Maps and place search | The area you are searching, to return gyms and studios nearby. |
| Error and crash reporting | Diagnostic data about failures in the app. |
| Hosting | Our servers and database, where the data lives. |
We may also disclose data where the law requires it, to enforce our Terms of Use, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a business transfer — in which case this policy follows the data.
5. What other members see
Your profile — photo, username, bio, city and state, and the details you filled in — is visible to other members. Other members see your username, not your account email. Posts, comments and likes are visible to the people your feed reaches, and messages are visible to whoever you send them to. Treat anything you post as something another person can screenshot.
6. Push notifications
Notifications need a device token, registered when you allow them. Turn them off in your phone settings, or adjust what you get in the app's notification preferences. Turning them off does not close your account.
7. Location
Finding gyms and nearby members uses location. Where the device does not give a usable position, the app falls back to the ZIP code on your account. You can refuse location permission in your phone settings; features that depend on it will be limited.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account exists. A lapsed membership does not delete anything. After deletion we remove or anonymise your data, except where we must keep records — for example transaction records — for a limited period. Messages you sent may remain visible to the person who received them.
9. Your choices and rights
- Edit or remove most of your profile in the app at any time.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or for it to be corrected or erased.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, where the law gives you that right.
- Turn off notifications and location permissions on your device.
Depending on where you live — for example under GDPR or the CCPA — you may have further rights, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. Email us and we will act on your request. We do not sell personal information.
10. Deleting your account
You can delete your account and its data from inside the app. Deleting the account does not cancel a store subscription — cancel that separately with Apple or Google, or you will keep being charged. If you cannot sign in to delete it, email us.
11. Security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted, passwords are hashed, and access to the systems holding member data is restricted. No service can promise perfect security, so use a strong, unique password and tell us if something looks wrong with your account.
12. Children
Swolemance is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has an account, contact us and we will remove it.
13. Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top changes when we do, and material changes will be notified in the app.
